High School Musical
I have decided it is time for me to be in a play again. I wanted some "ME" time, and since I love the stage, the Hubby agreed to let me try out. Because with Scamper around, all the time I put in to rehearsals and performances the Hubby puts in too. The only play going on that I was even remotely interested in was High School Musical. I decided it would be really fun to play Sharpay. (Yes I have seen the show--my second graders were really into it, and all the 'cool' teachers have seen it too) :) So I auditioned, and it was really a grueling audition process. The first tryout was a 4 hour dance audition. People were cut all throughout the night. I never got cut and was asked to come back the next day for a vocal audition. The vocal audition lasted less than 5 minutes. Then I was asked to come to another dance audition which lasted 4 hours again. So, in the end, I ended up in the cast, but didn't know if I got a lead role or not. Initially the Hubby and I decided it wouldn't be worth all the time if I didn't get the role of Sharpay. But after the whole audition process, I thought maybe I would do it either way, because I worked so hard to just get in the cast. Well, the director is really nice. He pulled me aside at the first cast meeting and told me that he thought I was really talented, but he just couldn't cast me as a lead. He said that with my age (I know, I'm so old--but almost everyone else IS in high school) I came off as too mature when paired with the available guys. But I decided it was something I wanted to do anyway. So I am in High School Musical! I actually have a small part. I am playing Martha Cox, who is one of the Brainiacs. She is the girl that has a secret passion for hip-hop. If you have seen the show, then you might know who she is. Well, practices have started and I am loving it. Practices are at 7, and Scamper goes to bed about 7:15, so I don't miss much. I feed Scamper and then the Hubby puts him down while I go to practice. I think it will work out okay. I am excited. So if anyone wants to see the show, it starts June 5 and runs Thurs. - Sat. until July 12 (a LONG run) with a few matinées. And maybe Mondays, I don't remember. But it is really nice to get out of the house.
