Baby Boy #2

The day finally arrived for Baby Boy #2 to make his appearance. He is so perfect, and we are so happy. I had a wonderful labor and delivery. There aren't many things I would like to have been different. I woke up Thursday morning with my water broken. I went to my already scheduled doctor's appointment to try and convince him that I didn't need to spend the entire day in the hospital. He was worried that the umbilical cord would drop down and cause problems, so he told me to go home, get my things, and head to the hospital. We arrived at the hospital at 10:20 (my mom came with me--she was here for her Spring Break, so it worked out nicely). I told the Hubby to go to work for the morning, because he had a few patients, and I was hardly feeling my contractions at all. He went to work and came back to the hospital about 11:40. When he got there I was really starting to feel contractions. They started to get really intense. At one point the nurse asked if she should check me and I told her that would be fine. I was at an 8 when she checked and was really having a hard time dealing with the pain. The Hubby was a great coach. He kept telling me how great I was doing and that I would be holding my new baby in no time. The nurse left and said to call if I felt like I needed to push. I had one contraction and then started yelling that I did need to push. All the medical staff started filing in right away. I pushed for about 15 minutes and then I had a beautiful baby boy in my arms! He was born at 12:37 PM, weighed 7 lb 2 oz, and was 19 inches long. Pretty similar to Scamper.

Here is Scamper's first look at our new little one. I was mad about this rule--no child, even siblings, allowed in the hospital unless they are 14 or older. So we could hold up our baby in the nursery window for Scamper to see. Some family moment!

Here is our first family "photo." Scamper wanted us to open the window.

Dressed and ready to go home. I was pretty hot to trot, so we got permission to be out of the hospital by 9 PM. It was so nice to spend the first night in my own bed. Plus I had my mom to help me out with anything I needed, and I didn't have hospital staff bothering me every hour.

Scamper sure loves to hold and touch the baby, but only for a few seconds. And with all the pictures we are taking of this baby, Scamper wants his picture taken all the time too!

I feel so blessed to have another baby in my home. I am pretty scared for the adjustments that are coming, but for now I am just enjoying this new bundle of joy. I am also very grateful for my birth experience. I prepared myself emotionally and physically to have a natural childbirth--free from as many medical interventions as possible. I didn't have any medication, IVs or fluids, or constant monitoring. I felt like I had so much freedom throughout, and the feelings I experienced when Baby was born are indescribable. Going from such intense pain to immediate relief brought so many more emotions than I experienced with my first birth. I am happy to say I accomplished what I set my mind to, and my body did what it was made to do.

congrats on baby # 2, what a cutie and just so tiny. what an incredible story too, and it looks like scamper is just going to be a great big brother!! best of luck and don't be afraid to let scamper watch more TV than usual, it is definitely hard for them to have you nurse ALL the time :)

Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you. I'm impressed that you did it naturally by choice - good for you! I have to admit, I feel completely validated because I always tell people that you feel a euphoria after natural childbirth that you don't get with an epidural. This is what I wrote about Enoch:

Please email me with baby boy's name! :) And best of luck healing!

Congrats! He's so adorable. I know you don't put names up, but I've got to know - email me or something! I can't believe you went natural. Did you take a class or read a book or something to prepare? I think that's amazing.

Well, I'm jealous of your delivery. Perhaps my next one will be better and I can make it without all the IV's and meds. Congrats! I thought you still had another month or two to go! Haha, shows you how busy you get with two! Good luck!

Oh I am so excited for you and your family! He looks so precious. Congratulations on such a great birth experience and with escaping the nightly nursing crew. Bet that was nice. :) If you get a chance, add me to the list of those to email your new baby boy's name too. It would be fun to know.
