Birthday Boy!

I can't believe it, but Scamper had another birthday! And boy did he have fun turning 4! We started out the day opening presents before The Hubby went to work.

A rug for cars and trains.

A marble run set that was just as much fun for me as it was for Scamper!

Glow-in-the-dark stars for his ceiling. And let me tell you, The Hubby did a FABULOUS job of putting them up. He created a spiraling galaxy and covered the entire ceiling.
A new pillowcase from Aunt K and Uncle S. Such a good idea, and very thoughtful (they sent it in the mail, and that was double thrilling).
Slinkies from Baby J, and these are what he wanted most for his birthday. So easy to please!
And a new bike from my mom (thanks Grandma)! He wanted to ride it and ride it and ride it. I didn't last too long out in the heat, but my mother-in-law was visiting for the weekend, and she was an extremely good sport. They would come in for water breaks every 20 minutes and then head back out. She has much more heat stamina than me!
This is what Scamper looked like when he was too hot and was ready to come in. It was well over 100 degrees. My mother-in-law really was great to be out there with him.
He got a few more presents, including Hungry, Hungry Hippos from my mother-in-law, that she played with him relentlessly throughout her visit.

The day after his birthday we had his party. This was the first year I did a real friends party with a theme and everything. I had so much fun doing it, and Scamper had so much fun participating with all his friends. We did a construction theme this year. I gave out these invitations:
We used a lot of caution tape around the house with a few balloons for decoration.

And I made these signs that we hung in various places.
We made the snack table look like a road (garbage bags and duct tape), and served the fruit salad and trail mix in a dump truck and cement truck.
We played some construction games, like throw the 'boulders' (wadded up newspaper) in the bucket.
And fill your construction bucket with 'building materials' (cotton balls and Q-tips), using your shovel.
Next we made trucks out of candy.
Then we cut and ate the cake I worked so hard on. It's always so sad!
This is the before picture:
And this is the after picture. Scamper was so excited to have a blue and green semi-truck cake.

He opened presents from friends and everyone left at about the same time. I would say it was just perfect for my first big bash. I can't wait to do more!

Wow, what a party! I have to admit, though, I was very interested to see how you were going to make a "dice" cake! Haha :)

So creative! You're such a good mom! I wish I could make a cake to look like something other than a flat blob.
