This trip was one of the most amazing things I have ever done or experienced. I definitely think all the hard work made it even more worth it (we really had to work for it, that's for sure!) Here we are starting out on Friday morning. We drove the 6 hours on Thursday night and camped up on top with a great view into the Grand Canyon.
Some great views once we were down in the Grand Canyon.
Neither of us has backpacked since we were in high school, so this was no piece of cake for either of us. It is 10 miles from the top of the canyon to the campground. Let's just say we went to bed pretty early that night!
Saturday: We decided to hike from the campground to the Colorado River, since a lot of people do it and love it. It is 7 miles one way, but only with day packs. It was a LOT harder than I expected. We started with this beautiful view of Mooney Falls...
...and then proceeded to hike DOWN it. I was told that this was the case, but I did not expect I would be climbing down a sheer drop-off, clinging to some chains for dear life! Definitely not a fan of this part of the trip (but I did want to get to the Colorado).
We made it safely to the bottom. You can see us in the picture with Mooney Falls, you just have to look closely! :)
So many beautiful pictures I could include on the way to the Colorado River. But I just chose a few. Here is a picture of Beaver Falls. We took the 'high road' and never got too close, but it was still pretty from up there. And when I say 'high road' I mean climbing up cliffs and rappelling down a monstrous boulder without being attached. I think I might have lost some of my adventurousness over time!
Here is the most amazing confluence I have ever seen! The perfect, milky-blue water meets the muddy brown water of the Colorado. Pretty cool.
Proof that we made it all the way to the Colorado!
Sunday: We went to Sacrament Meeting services in the one-room chapel in the village. I have never experienced something like this, but the Hubby said it brought back serious memories of the mission. Only 1 active family currently on the reservation, but 12 in attendance.
Then we spent the rest of the day taking it easy, letting our bodies slightly recover, and exploring the waterfalls. This is called New Navajo Falls (you can see Navajo Falls at the top of the picture). After the huge flood in 2008, this new falls was formed.
This is more of Navajo Falls. We climbed all around on the rocks here. This was the Hubby's favorite. It was definitely gorgeous.
Some beautiful pictures of Havasu Falls. This one was my favorite. It sure doesn't get much sun throughout the day though, so it was VERY cold swimming!
Monday: Starting out in the early morning.
A beautiful picture of the Grand Canyon from higher up.
Here is a nice picture of the switchbacks that just about killed me!
We finally made it to the top. I wasn't quite sure I would ever make it!
Hooray!!!
We rewarded ourselves with a nice dinner at Olive Garden on the way home, and got home in time to see our boys before bed. Like I said before, an incredibly AMAZING experience!

Wow-amazing pictures. They bring back wonderful memories. I'm so glad you were able to do it.
P.S. I see you got the Captain Crunch T-shirt.
Okay, pretty much I can never let Sam see this post because he'll regret marrying me, and wish he married you. Those pictures are AMAZING. So gorgeous. You are in such good shape for a cute pregnant lady!
ps. Good for you for hiking modest. Lots of people choose not to wear garments to hike (which is none of my business, I'm not making a judgement call, nor am I assuming you did or didn't), but they seem to take that as license to wear booty shorts and tank tops. As if the only reason we're modest is because we're wearing the garment! Not that that is a pet peeve of mine or anything... :)
Oh my goodness, this is beautiful! Way to go!
You are seriously hardcore. That would've been hardcore even if you weren't pregnant. I like to claim I went on a 16 mile backpacking trip when I was pregnant, but I was only 4 weeks pregnant and didn't even know it..so it doesn't count. Plus, it was no where near as intense as this. The pictures are GORGEOUS though, so it looks like it was totally worth it. Way to go!
That is seriously one amazing looking place. And I can't believe you're doing all these things while being pregnant! Your body must not treat you badly when you're "with child" like mine...
