Ahoy Mateys!

After celebrating Scamper's 5th birthday a few weekends ago, I discovered something about myself.  I REALLY love preparing for birthday parties.  I love making invitations, decorating cakes (or cupcakes) however daft I may be at it, organizing, and coming up with themes/ideas.  But what I don't like, is when the people show up!  I do not like the actual birthday party part.  There isn't anything I can think of that I liked about so many kids running around and creating havoc and noise.  I guess other than the fact that Scamper had a good time.  So from now on, it might be a themed birthday party for just our family!  Anyway, here is what went on for Scamper's Pirate birthday party this year.

I got the invitations out to all his friends (boys and girls).
I turned a vanilla cupcake recipe (so fabulous, I wanted to eat every cupcake the moment they came out of the oven) into a funfetti cupcake, at Scamper's request.
Decorated them as pirates (I put red polka-dots on the white cupcakes so they didn't look so boring, I just forgot to get a picture of that).
Got the pirate loot ready to be buried!  Then had The Hubby draw me pictures for the treasure hunt, and hid all the pictures in their respective places.
 Hung decorations around the house.
And got my pirate ready for action!
Then the birthday party began!

Here are a few of our games:
Pin the eye-patch on the pirate.
Obstacle course
Pirate ship pinata.
Ending with the buried treasure in the sandbox.
Then, of course we ate the cupcakes.  And yes, that is me dressed up as a pirate.  Yeah, I'm the cool mom!  (My mom had a pirate costume, complete with boots, that she let me borrow).
A great end to the party.
Happy 5th birthday Scamper!

Last, I have to throw in a couple cute pictures of my pirate princess.  Already 6 months old!

I am the exact same way about parties--I love all the planning and preparing, but not so much the actual party. :)

I think your kids are super lucky that you enjoy the planning. I don't like the planning or the party, so we've never actually had a friends party. We had our first parties with cousins this summer. Before then, it was us and grandparents. I am so boring! :) Anyway, that party was adorable!

Nice work! I love your idea of throwing a themed party for the family only...if only I could sell that idea. :) You are a cool mom and your little one is looking so cute!
