Since we are renting our house down here, we had to improvise a garden. Our 'main' garden turned out really nice, but it didn't hold quite as many different plants as I had originally imagined. Of course I had imagined being able to grow every different fruit, vegetable and herb there was out there, all in this one garden box. Needless to say, I was disappointed to have to cut back the number of plants I could actually grow.
We added the dirt (Scamper was such a help spreading it all around evenly).
And then the very few plants--do they really need that much space? :)
Since this project took a lot of time, and more money than anticipated, we had to opt for a cheaper alternative for my sad little plants that got left out.
This is a very respectable way of container gardening. Lots of people garden this way.
And then there is this! Hence--ghetto gardening. Straight from the bag! But the best part is--it's working just great. My plants are all thriving, despite where they were planted.
Just FYI, between the garden box, the containers, and the 'bags' I was able to plant tomatoes, strawberries, cilantro, basil, rosemary, chives, sage, a sunflower (Scamper's choice), green & yellow peppers, jalapeƱo peppers, spinach, carrots, onions, green onions, beans, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, and watermelon. Not too shabby! Now I just need to build a sun-shade before all my plants wither away!
